Is Aunt Frieda Watching You in Bed? Feng Shui Says: Move Her Out
Is Aunt Frieda—cocktail in hand from the last family summer BBQ—still watching over your bedroom? Maybe not in person, but if her framed photo is prominently hanging on your bedroom wall, she might be seeing more than she should.
There’s a good place for everything, but when it comes to family photos, the bedroom isn’t it.
Why is that?
It’s not that the photo itself is “bad,” but in Feng Shui, placement matters. The bedroom is your sanctuary. It’s where you rest, restore, and (hopefully) reconnect with your partner. Family portraits—while meaningful—carry a different energy: connection, loyalty, even responsibility. That’s beautiful in a living room or hallway, but in the bedroom? It’s not quite the vibe when you’re trying to rekindle intimacy.
Sorry, Aunt Frieda. Time to give you a more appropriate spot.
Creating a Feng Shui Love Bubble
Feng Shui is all about harmony and flow. Symbolism and placement shape how we feel in a space. I was recently asked by a lovely couple, “Annette, what would you change in our bedroom?”
They had done an amazing job raising their children and were now stepping into a new chapter of life—no longer just parents, but partners rediscovering each other. A perfect time for a reset.
Together, we envisioned a cozy, connected love bubble: a bedroom that feels like a private retreat with plenty of space for rest, romance, and deep connection.
So where to begin?
Feng Shui Bedroom No-No’s (and what they symbolize)
Start by noticing what doesn’t feel supportive, harmonious, or romantic. Here are common culprits I often see:
1) Aunt Frieda’s photo on the wall – Not part of the love bubble (sorry, again).
2) Urns or ashes of beloved pets – Tender memories, but grief has no place on your dresser.
3) Stacks of unread books and cluttered nightstands – Signal mental overwhelm and energetic chaos.
4) Unused, oversized massage chairs – They dominate the space with stale, uninviting energy.
5) TVs in the bedroom – Major distraction and often a third wheel in the relationship.
Additional Feng Shui Tips to Rekindle Romance
6) Single imagery or lonely symbols
Artwork featuring solo figures or isolated landscapes can subtly reinforce emotional distance. Opt for pairs—birds, trees, hearts, or abstract symbols of unity.
7) Work in the bedroom
Desks, laptops, and to-do lists bring productivity energy, not passion. Move them out.
8) Clutter under the bed
You’re literally sleeping over stagnant energy. Clear it out and invite in lightness and ease.
9) Imbalanced nightstands or lighting
One person with a big lamp and one with a tiny one? It reflects relationship imbalance. Aim for symmetry in furniture and lighting.
10) No headboard
A solid headboard brings stability, safety, and support to your love life.
11) Avoid the “Coffin Position”
Sleeping with your feet directly facing the door can symbolize energy draining away. A simple bed shift can invite more restful and renewing sleep.
12) Check for Geopathic Stress
If sleep feels off despite your efforts, you may be lying on a geopathic stress line. These natural earth energies can subtly affect rest and vitality.
Simple Enhancements to Invite Love In
-
Use soft, romantic colors like blush, rose, peach, or burgundy—shades that activate the heart.
-
Introduce sensual textures—think velvet, silk, or layered cozy fabrics.
-
Incorporate intentional scent with rose, ylang-ylang, or sandalwood essential oils.
-
Activate the “love corner” (far right from the bedroom entrance) with paired candles, rose quartz, or symbolic art.
Your Bedroom Is Sacred
Creating a Feng Shui love bubble doesn’t mean your bedroom has to look like a hotel suite—it just needs to reflect you as a couple. Release what no longer serves your relationship, and welcome in beauty, intimacy, and connection and most of all, make space for shared dreams.
Every object, image, and corner has energy. When you align your environment with your intentions as a couple, you’ll feel the shift—not just in your space, but in your heart.
Let your bedroom become a soft place to land. A safe haven. A sacred space that holds and nourishes your love.
