I have been called for a space clearing consultation to this very tastefully decorated apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. My client is a successful medical doctor and such a lovely person who welcomes me into her home.

How mindful design and decor influence a space

You can tell a lot of care has been put into this lovely home, the placement of all objects. It starts with the arrangement of furniture. The elegant vases decorating the consoles and the paintings that have been framed to enliven the living space. The walls are painted in warm, earthy tones. The carpets and fabrics throughout the home feel fresh and plush. The home is located on the eighth floor and has a beautiful view opening up over the rooftops of its neighborhood. It is bright and sunny.

This elegant home has clearly been set up very consciously to harmonize and sooth the senses. For a start, I am hand sensing the entire inner perimeter of the place to get a feel for the energies that are present. This tells me how well my client, Dee is her name, is able to live life to the fullest. It reveals energy blockages and tells the story how my client’s past or that of tenants who previously have lived in this home might shape the future of Dee’s life.

Where is the energy flow stuck in the Feng Shui Bagua?

In the relationship corner of the home, which is located in the top right corner of the floor plan as seen from the entrance door, is the daughter’s bedroom. The daughter has chosen to live exclusively with her father at this point and has been absent from her mother’s life for too long a while with no rhyme or reason. I am not a mother myself but could feel the pain in my clients heart as we entered the room.

The bedroom is painted in pastel blue and appears very welcoming and equipped with everything a teenager would appreciate. There are current photos of the daughter as a cheerful teenager placed throughout the bedroom.

The Mum’s heart is overcast and aching when we reach this room. Dee would love for her daughter to be here so she can show her love and support her.

How to heal a color clash in Feng Shui

In addition to the beautiful ceremony which reset and revitalized this home with vibrant energy, I am suggesting Dee to implement a gentle yet powerful Feng Shui cure.

In my perception the cool pastel blue color stands in a color clash to the rest of the warm, earthy tones of her home. Not only that. As current matters stands, it makes this bedroom separate from the overall atmosphere of the home. You feel warm in the majority of the home and frosty cold in the daughter’s bedroom. Symbolism is very important in Feng Shui and the color clash symbolizes disharmony between mother and daughter. For Dee this is an easy fix.

Dee decides to paint this room with a warm yellow. This makes for a lovely fit into the color scheme of the home but more importantly, it is one of her daughter’s favorite colors!

When you will walk from room to room the warm color scheme now escorts you throughout the home. You feel enveloped in a warm and gentle summer wind. No more cool draft coming towards you which makes you want to reach for a cardigan when stepping into the daughter’s bedroom. This is especially important as the bedroom is located in the relationship corner of this home.

How Feng Shui becomes the Kintsugi of broken family relations 

The yellow golden painted bedroom has now become an integral part of the home, rather than standing apart in a cool blue. The harmonious color flow is fostering inclusion and harmony between parent and child, aligned with my client’s goals and aspiration for this consultation.

How sweet! A happy picture of mother and daughter is added to the relationship corner of the bedroom, emitting frequencies of a loving mother-daughter relationship, togetherness and joy.
